Artful Brain Creations was founded as a testament to resilience in a world that frequently emphasizes limitations. Cynthia, a survivor of a severe traumatic brain injury, utilizes her experiences to create art and crafts that inspire others through unique and meaningful pieces. The world as she understood it vanished. She found herself navigating a sea of limitations, and she embarked on a journey to discover her potential and rise above.
Our products reflect a handcrafted quality, and while we strive for uniformity, some items may exhibit minor imperfections, which add to their charm. We provide an option for those who appreciate one-of-a-kind creations, as opposed to mass-produced goods.
Cynthia possesses professional training in photography and has long been passionate about arts and crafts. Following her life-changing injury in late 2017, she undertook the challenge of relearning fundamental skills such as reading, writing, walking independently, and performing daily tasks, such as putting on socks or putting jam on toast.
Although her former career as a senior administrative professional and her exploration of photography and intricate beadwork seemed to fade, Cynthia chose to embark on a journey of rehabilitation. Inspired by a piece created by an unknown artist, she unearthed leather in her basement, marking the beginning of her creative journey.
In the early stages, Cynthia's focus was more on regaining lost skills than on producing art. This effort contributed to enhancing her cognitive functions, fine motor skills, focus, endurance, and overall recovery. She dedicated short intervals—ranging from five to twenty minutes—to various tasks, such as cutting leather and aiming to create something meaningful, irrespective of the outcome.
Primarily working with leather, Cynthia also enjoys integrating mixed media elements, including beads, feathers, pebbles, acrylics, and epoxy resin. Recently, she has successfully relearned the art of beadwork. and loves to keep adding to her skills by continuously exploring new options.
Each piece created by Cynthia holds significant meaning in her journey toward recovery, emotional processing, and healing from trauma.
Artful Brain Creations became a CAN in a world of CANNOT's. The mantra we adopted is; "When life is filled with things you can no longer do, you need to find something you CAN do."
